In this post, I’ll highlight how to increase website traffic. These methods will help generate leads by putting your website in front of the right people.
Here is how to increase website traffic. Post regular blogs based on your target audience’s web searches and utilize social media. You can also divert people to your website by answering questions with links to your blogs. Providing free downloadable resources also attracts website visitors.
Driving traffic to your website is essential for your business. A quick search on Google can reveal all sorts of methods on how to increase website traffic. However, deciphering the best ways to increase website traffic can be challenging, especially when so many people are trying to sell software and courses. Here’s how to do it!
1. Identify And Target Relevant Topics
Blogs are an essential part of a business’s website. Check out my post, ” Why does my website need a blog?” for the complete picture, but in essence, a blog:
- Keeps your target audience up to date
- Answer people’s questions
- Provide another way to interact with potential and existing customers
- Improve your online presence with SEO
- Help you build a mailing list
- Highlight your products and services
- Provides social media content
- Low-cost marketing
- Demonstrates your authority on a subject
Therefore, posting regular blogs will go a long way to increase website traffic. So, how do you do this effectively?
The first thing to do is identify what people are searching for within your industry by looking for keywords. You can do this with a keyword search tool or by looking at what people search for online.
For example, I live very close to Morzine, a ski resort in the French Alps. If someone wanted information about snowboarding in Morzine, they could search “Morzine Snowboarding” and get many relevant results.
However, you’ll see a list of questions at the top of the search results titled “Others want to know.” These are questions people type into Google. If you were to have an SEO-optimized blog answering one of these questions, you’d stand a good chance of attracting people to your website.
Not only this, but it would capture the right traffic. By this, I mean people already interested in snowboarding in Morzine. Suppose you search for “Morzine” on its own. In that case, you get different results that are more generalized rather than focused on snowboarding.
Looking at the “Others want to know” questions is just one method of seeing what people are searching for. Another is the alphabet method:
First, type your website’s niche into the search bar. Then type the letter “A,” but don’t click the search button. You’ll see a list of searches drop down from the search bar, which are popular examples of what people are searching for. Take note of these searches and repeat for every letter of the alphabet for an extensive list of blog topics.
Without a keyword tool, these are simple methods for identifying keywords. The downside is that you don’t know how many people search these topics every month. Doing this alone may not get as much traffic as you expect.
However, it’s good to populate your website with a whole load of relevant information, even if a few topics are not heavily searched for. Google likes websites that are updated with fresh content regularly.
2. Post SEO Optimized Blogs
Now you have a list of potentially popular blog titles, you need to get posting. Writing a blog can be consuming if you’re not used to it, but when you do it yourself, your only cost is your time.
You need to write your blog in a specific way, not just in terms of writing style but to give it the best chance of getting to the top of Google or even on the first page. This is where basic knowledge of SEO (search engine optimization) comes in.
If you have a WordPress website, you’ll probably have an SEO plugin such as YOAST. The plugin will give you tips on optimizing your blog for Google. However, it can take ages to fine-tune your blog if you don’t know how to do this. I remember how frustrating it was trying to improve the readability and SEO scores to get the green light.
You may have time to learn how to write and post a blog properly, but you may want to consider hiring a copywriter. By placing an order through a freelancing website like Fiverr, you don’t have to worry about creating effective content to increase website traffic.
Often, a copywriter will have written your blog of choice within a day or so, freeing up your time for other things. They may even upload the blog onto your website and write the meta description.
3. Organic Social Media
Like it or not, social media is unavoidable for businesses as it is an important method in how to increase website traffic. You are selling yourself short if you don’t attempt to build a social media following on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and TikTok.
Some gurus say you should utilize all social media platforms. However, I beg to differ. Yes, more platforms may give you a more extensive reach, but not everyone wants or feels comfortable making certain types of content. For example, I prefer posting on Instagram, as it gives people an insight into what I do and how I can help them, but I feel uncomfortable talking on camera on TikTok. Unfortunately, I think this is a pill I need to swallow and just do it, as TikTok and YouTube are incredible ways of reaching thousands or millions of people.
4. Answer Questions Online
There are several websites designed to answer questions the general public has. Websites like Quora and Reddit are full of questions on pretty much any subject you can think of, so you can drop links to your blogs as answers, increasing website traffic.
These websites are also great resources to identify what kind of content you should add to your website.
5. Work With Influencers
Products and services that are talked about and promoted by influencers sell well. So, once you’ve got your brand, product/service, and workflow perfected, you can increase website traffic by working with an influencer.
You can strike a deal, send them products, or sponsor influencers to share your business with their followers. However, you must work with an influencer within your niche. Don’t just pick someone popular; make sure they have some authority in your industry so they promote you to the right people.
6. Use LinkedIn
LinkedIn is full of professionals within every niche, so posting regularly on the platform is a great way to increase website traffic. By posting relevant content, professionals will visit your website as they are interested in what you’re offering.
7. Be A Guest On A Podcast
Podcasts are incredibly popular now and can be used to increase website traffic. By appearing on someone’s established podcast within your niche, you can use the experience to promote your website.
Before you appear on a podcast, you need to be an authority on a subject or have a reasonable following in your niche. But you may know of a specific podcast you’d be able to contribute to; if so, why not contact them? Podcast hosts are always looking for guests, as it makes their content creation easier and more exciting.
Being put in front of an invested audience is a great way to bump up website visitors. Also, a backlink to your website on the podcast’s website adds credibility, helping you further.
8 Create An Online Community
Every niche has a group of people that has something to say. So, if you can build an online community, you create a space for people to share their views and ask questions. The easiest way to do this is with a Facebook group, but it can take a lot of management to ensure the community continues in your desired direction. You may have to deal with a lot of online nastiness and prevent others from using the group to sell their own products and services.
9. Provide Useful Resources
Creating downloadable resources is a great way to increase website traffic. For example, you can write an ebook giving people free information. When someone finds out about your ebook via social media or word of mouth, they will head to your website to download it. This is also an excellent opportunity to capture their email address for your mailing list. You can then send them updates to keep them interested in your website.
10. Ensure Your Website Isn't Slow
Slow websites don’t get much traffic for a couple of reasons. Firstly, your website visitors become frustrated waiting for the pages to load and close the tab. Secondly, Google punishes slow websites with poor rankings, even if their SEO is on point.
So, make sure your web pages are user-friendly and load quickly. You can do this with smaller image files and by deleting unused plugins.
