Website owners are only too aware that they need to post plenty of content. Regular content helps with SEO and to inform your website visitors about what you do and your niche. The problem website owners have, is finding the time to publish quality content consistently. Therefore, they ask the question of “do I need a copywriter?”.
The first thing that comes to their mind is the cost, especially if their website or business is new. So why not just write a quick blog during your lunch break? How hard can it be?
The truth is, it isn’t tricky to knock up a quick blog. However, your quick blog can do more harm than good or not do anything at all without care and attention.
Website content should attract website visitors. It should then entertain, educate or persuade them to take action. This is where a professional writer comes in.
The services of a professional writer bring a whole host of benefits to you—for example, more traffic, sales, and saving you time.

Do I Need A Copywriter? - Probably...
Great ROI
A copywriter gives you an excellent return on investment. By spending a small amount of money on a copywriter, you can get results that you wouldn’t necessarily get from writing the content yourself. The copywriter will use all the tricks of the trade to give your content maximum exposure.
When you reach more people, you get better results.
Effective Communication With Your Target Market
Copywriters tend to work within one or two niches. For example, I specialise in winter sports and cycling (but that doesn’t mean I can’t write for other niches!).
Writers who work within niches know what language to use and understand the needs and values of the target market. They also know where to do their research, so they understand the market perfectly.
The knowledge a writer has and will gain about your audience will allow them to write effectively. The content they produce will fit in seamlessly, enticing your audience to take action. By this, I mean it will ultimately earn you money.
Copywriters Know Their SEO
There is a good chance that a copywriter will know more about SEO than you do. A good blog isn’t much use without good SEO, as an SEO unfriendly blog will be more challenging for your intended audience to find.
A Good Writer Is Very Versatile
Website content can take a while to create, especially if writing isn’t your forté. As a business owner, you have plenty of other things to do, so why not leave the writing to someone else?
While your copywriter is creating your content, you can be concentrating on other aspects of your business or life.
Is It Really Worth Paying A Copywriter?
Do you want results? If so, it is definitely worth paying a copywriter. However, there are a few things to consider before you hand over your money.
The first thing to think about is your budget. You definitely get what you pay for, so a cheap writer may not be any better than you. Some cheap writers on freelancing websites often plagiarise other people’s work and have poor language skills. This content looks terrible and is disastrous for SEO.
If you plan on going cheap, check out the writer’s profiles carefully. Have they put much effort into their profile? Are they fluent or native speakers of your language? Do they have their own website? These are all good signs that they take their work seriously and are capable.
You don’t have to spend ridiculous amounts of money on a writer. But going cheap is not a good idea. You may not find anyone suitable at a low budget, so you may want to increase your budget. Alternatively, write your content yourself.
If you can increase your budget to hire a proper writer, you can save lots of time, so you don’t have to learn the skills yourself.
Hiring A Copywriter
Are you ready to take your content to the next level? Fantastic, let’s take you through hiring the perfect wordsmith for your niche!
Many people use freelancing websites such as Fiverr or Upwork. These are great platforms, but you can fall into traps. For example, some sellers are content mills, churning out poor quality articles. Often these sellers literally copy and paste content from other websites.
However, there are some excellent freelancers on these platforms, and they are not too hard to find. For example, on Fiverr, you can do a simple search based on your requirements, and a whole host of writers will appear. You can then check out their profiles for buyer reviews, various gigs, personal stories, prices, qualifications and experience. If you pay attention, you can easily sort the bad ones from the good ones.
The other way to find a good writer is to simply google your requirements. For example, typing “I will write your cycling blog” into Google gives you some great options ;).
Once you have found one or two writers that you like the look of, send them a message. You can start a dialogue with them to get more of a feel for them. It is also a good idea to ask them for some samples of their work.
When you have chosen a writer, you need to communicate with them properly. You must give them all the necessary information for the work you need doing in advance. Check out my blog on how to use a freelancer for the best results.
A Good Writer Should Have...
A Good Attitude
Working with someone with a bad attitude is never good. If for any reason, they give you a bad vibe, they don’t deserve your custom. There is a good chance they will be awkward to work with and not deliver to your required standard.
A Portfolio
An experienced copywriter will have a string of examples of their work to show you. However, you may want to give a newbie a shot, as everyone needs to start somewhere. However, I recently looked at some of my early work, and it is pretty cringy. So, if you want quality, your writer will have an extensive portfolio.
SEO Skills
Copywriters with SEO skills will be able to produce content that sells and take action, but it will also attract organic website traffic.
These skills all add up. For example, a blog that gets put in front of the eyes of more relevant people has the ability to persuade while continuing to attract traffic is a triple threat.
Before contacting a copywriter, it is worth getting some keyword skills yourself. This way, you will know what to talk to your writer about.
Research Skills
The most significant part of writing is the research. It is not unheard of for writers to do several weeks of research before they even start typing.
A writer cannot be an expert in everything. However, they can come across as an expert thanks to excellent writing skills and lots of research.

If you have a minimal budget, you can take a gamble on the new guy. Alternatively, you can learn the skills yourself and get typing. However, if time is too tight and you can afford a professional, do so.
